Utah State will pay the Purple and Gold a visit Saturday night. The Aggies are a respectable football team which must not be overlooked.
USU has 47 freshmen on this team, nine of them redshirts.
They know how to score, as they have averaged 38.5 points per game over their first four contests, despite losing nine offensive starters from their 2018 squad. The Aggies average 533 total yards per contest, 206.8 on the ground, and 326.3 by pass.
Quarterback Jordan Love, a junior, averages 26.2 completions per game, seventh in the nation. He averages 301 yards passing per contest.
Siasosi Mariner, a graduate student, is the leading receiver on the squad. Mariner has 305 yards in receptions through four games with two touchdowns. He averages 13.9 yards per catch.
Sophomore Deven Thompkins has 193 yards in receptions this season, averaging 16 yards per grab. He has three touchdowns this year.
Junior Savon Scarver, is the fourth leading receiver on the team. Scarver is the nation's premier kickoff returner. He has returned four kickoffs for touchdowns during his career, with one this year. He has returned five kickoffs this season, averaging an uncanny 41.4 yards per kickoff return.
Jaylen Warren leads the team in rushing with a total of 335 yards. The junior averages 6.7 per carry. Warren has scored four touchdowns.
The Aggies have generated this offense despite returning one offensive lineman, sophomore left tackle Alfred Edwards, and one other starter, Love.
On defense junior linebacker David Woodward is second in the country with 32 solo tackles. and third in the nation in total tackles with 55, averaging 13.8 per game. He leads the nation with four forced fumbles.
The Aggies are a work in progress, which is good, as long as they do not progress against the Purple and Gold.
