Deadly October 2019
At first, it looked like Deadly October would be not so deadly. Then, on Saturday, the last Saturday in September, there was Clemson versus North Carolina, a seemingly ho-hum affair for the defending national champions. Clemson fell asleep at the wheel, and what seemed to be no more than a scrimmage, developed into a death match. The Tigers were fighting for their lives until the very last play of the game. Clemson did not lose the game, but they lost their top perch on the Associated Press' (AP) college football poll. Was this a harbinger for the next four weeks? Did Deadly October give us a sneak preview? Did Deadly October remind us there are still two months left to the 2019 college football regular season, two long months?
Deadly October, the month of the college football season, where nothing is quite as it seems. What program, struggling in September, will, all of a sudden turn rabid, and be the bane of every team it meets? Which team, sailing along, will get torpedoed? Stay tuned.
Below is the schedule of the AP top ten going into Deadly October. As usual, one can bet, this top ten will have changed, in some form or fashion, by the end of the month. At first glance, two teams, Auburn and Florida, have more to fear than anyone else in Deadly October, but do not bet on it.
