Game Four

Syracuse

Record: 2-1

Conference: Atlantic Coast

The Syracuse Orangemen come to Tiger stadium Saturday as another early season mystery team. Their two wins are against Central Connecticut State and Central Michigan, not exactly the upper crust of college football.

One name which stands out on the Syracuse roster is senior wide receiver Steve Ishmael.  He has been a starter since game one in his career, as a freshman for the Cuse.  Ishmael is currently seventh in the country in receiving yards, with 389 after three games. However, he does not have a touchdown. He averages 129.7 yards in receiving per game, seventh in the nation. Ishmael averages 11.3 catches per contest, tops in the country.

Junior quarterback Eric Dungey is the leading rusher on the team after three games with 209 yards and four touchdowns. Dungey likes throwing the ball.  He has passed for five touchdowns. The Orangemen have thrown the ball an average of 37 times per game after three contests this season.  Senior wide receiver Ervin Philips complements Ishmael, averaging five receptions per game at 8.69 yards per catch.

Syracuse has a makeshift offensive line.  Sophomore right guard Evan Adams started nine contests last season.

On defense, senior linebackers Parris Bennett and Zaire Franklin lead the team in tackles after three games.  Bennett has 17 stops, 12 solos, and Franklin has 16 tackles, eight unassisted. Sophomore defensive end  Josh Black leads the team with three tackles for losses (tfls).

There is not much to report on Syracuse.  They have not played a conference game. Their only loss was to Middle Tennessee State University. As mentioned earlier, the Orangemen like throwing the ball. It might be wise for the Purple and Gold to be aware of Dungey and Ishmael at all times.
