Record 2-2 Overall, 0-1 SEC
Missouri comes into Tiger Stadium as a team of question marks. The Tigers love to pass, and this is not a mystery. They are fifth in the nation in total offense, averaging 569.5 yards per game. Mizzou has averaged 6.88 yards per play this season. They have averaged 393 yards per contest through the air in four games this year. The Tigers average 15.2 yards per completion, and have scored 15 touchdowns by air this campaign.
It is fair to note Missouri has garnered most of these gaudy passing stats by victories over Eastern Michigan 61-21, and FCS member Delaware State 79-0 last week. This was not top flight college football competition. They have lost to West Virginia and Georgia. They scored 11 points in the defeat to West Virginian and 27 points in the loss to Georgia.
Sophomore quarterback Drew Locke is second in the nation with 1,508 yards passing. He is fourth in the country in passing yards per game, averaging 377 yards per contest.
Junior wide receiver J’Mon Moore is the leading receiver in the Southeastern Conference, with 434 yards in receptions. He averages 16.7 yards per grab, and has six receiving touchdowns. Emanuel Hall is the second leading receiver on the team with 241 yards. He averages 18.5 yards per reception. Senior Chris Black averages 15.9 yards per catch. Mizzou likes to stretch the field when they pass.
Missouri normally runs with one back. Freshman Damarea Crockett has rushed for 210 yards.for the season. In the conference loss to Georgia he had only 23 yards on eight carries.
Currently, Missouri has showed itself to be an average defensive team.
In the loss to West Virginia, the Tigers allowed 253 yards through the air and 241 on the ground. In the defeat to Georgia, they allowed 308 yards to the Bulldogs in the air, but only 101 on the ground. They had five turnovers in the Georgia game.
Junior defensive lineman Charles Harris had three sacks against Georgia. Senior linebacker Michael Scherer leads the team in tackles after four games with 29 stops, nine solos.
Saturday can be the beginning of a new season for the Purple and Gold, who are still not out of the SEC race. A win can be the start of something. But, they must win, and they will have to stop the pass.
